Exuviate the old, embrace the new with Dr. Ewane

Meet Dr. Ewune Ewane, PhD

Welcome, I’m Dr. Ewune Ewane, PhD. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and founder of Exuviate Psychological Health Services, PLLC.

Welcome, I’m Dr. Ewune Ewane. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and founder of Exuviate Psychological Health Services, PLLC with over 10 years of experience helping adults navigate their mental, emotional, physical, and relational wellbeing.

My therapeutic, clinical expertise is reflected within four concentrations:

  • Clinical Psychology — You will receive education and support to manage symptoms of emotional health related to clinical diagnoses such as PTSD, Depression, and Bipolar disorder.
  • Health Psychology — You will receive guidance and training to improve physical health related conditions such as sleep difficulty, gut health, and stress-related illness, and manage challenges from medical issues like cancer, infertility, GI conditions, postpartum, and eating disorders.
  • Addiction Psychology —  You will receive instruction and framework to develop recovery strategies and reduce harmful, compulsive behaviors that create substance use vulnerability.
  • Counseling Psychology — You will receive whole person development and build skills in communication and emotional regulation.

The Counseling Psychology ideology, “the person is a sum of parts,” reflects my integrated, evidence-based care that balances science with a deep respect for the biological, psychological, and social factors of your individual health.

This technique allows me to see all of you.

My specialty in addiction psychology combines both clinical experience and cutting edge research. I take a biopsychosocial approach, which means I consider biological, environmental, and personal factors that shape each person’s relationship with substances. Over the past decade, I have studied addiction through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and served as a fellow with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). These experiences allow me to offer science-supported treatments, including CBT for Substance Use Disorders (CBT-SUD), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) that provide an individualized treatment plan.

My background in clinical psychology comes from working in some of the most respected medical and mental health settings. I trained at Baylor College of Medicine, Harris County Psychiatric Center, Child Protective Services (CPS), and Veteran Affairs Hospitals across the country.

Through these experiences, I became skilled in using evidence-based therapies such as Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Seeking Safety. These approaches allow me to provide high level care for a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, phobias, and bipolar disorder, that is both effective and personalized.

My background in counseling psychology reflects a commitment to understanding the whole person—mind, body, and environment. I have worked across community clinics, hospitals, and academic settings, where I supported individuals, couples, and families navigating challenges such as life transitions, relationship concerns, stress, loss and grief, and identity development.

These experiences have shaped my integrative approach, drawing from humanistic, multicultural, and evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Emotional Efficacy (EE), Social Skills Training (SST), and Anger Management. I emphasize the importance of cultural context, personal strengths, and resilience to meet you where you are.

My goal is to create a safe and collaborative space that empowers you to explore your challenges, deepen self-understanding, and make meaningful changes in your life.

My work in Health Psychology reflects over a decade of clinical and research experience across the health spectrum. I have trained and worked in areas such as psycho-oncology, women’s health, gastrointestinal (GI) health, and health disparities research.

As a fellow in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, I studied health disparities in breast cancer, and later completed a fellowship at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, gaining first-hand clinical experience supporting individuals from diagnosis through recovery. My dissertation, also supported by M.D. Anderson, focused on treatment decision-making among African American women with breast cancer.

I specialize in women’s health and am certified in Reproductive Mental Health, to support women across the fertility spectrum—including PMS, pregnancy, infertility, postpartum, and menopause. In addition, I am among the few psychologists formally trained in GI health, integrating the mind–gut connection into therapy.

My research and clinical work through the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) have informed my intricate understanding of biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to obesity, nutrition, sexual education, and stress. During my fellowship in Primary Care and Mental Health Integration with HRSA, I developed a strong understanding of medical conditions and healthcare systems. This training not only sharpened my medical knowledge but also taught me how to work seamlessly with your healthcare team. My goal is to make your care feel coordinated, supportive, and easier to navigate, so you don’t feel alone in the process

I use a collaborative, respectful approach grounded in social constructivism — which simply means I believe our life experiences shape how we understand ourselves and the world. With the right support those narratives can shed and grow in empowering and healing ways.

My practice is identity affirming, culturally informed and responsive. I welcome individuals from all walks of life and hold space for the complexity of identity, culture, and lived experience.
